Design 101 - A quick tour of what goes into our touch panel designs

Buttons - Spacing - Backgrounds - Color - Fit & Finish

Fit & Finish

When you look at a touch panel template, you can tell right away when a lot of though has been given to every aspect of the design. Fit & Finish is basically all of the different disciplines of GUI design rolled into one. Take a look at some screenshots with various source pages showing and check for consistency of button placement from one source to the next. Also notice if design elements which were added for for "flash" are taking up space that could be used for larger buttons or a better layout.

We believe that functionality must dictate design and not the other way around. You can easily notice when an entire template was designed around a background image because buttons and pages are forced to fit in the remaining space left for popup / sub pages. This is why you don't see a GUI driven by icons with our FlexTheme templates, every button is customizable and text can be easily changed on every button.

Quite a few sources use jog control for on-screen menu navigation so the buttons should be in the exact same place on any page that uses them. Many templates have buttons (like a 0-9 keypad) that move from one side to the other on individual sources which makes it harder for your clients to get used to.

Functionality - Simplicity - Beauty

These are the principles of design we incorporate into all of our touch panel templates
